The ratio of students to teachers in Dedham Public Schools District rose by 0.9% in the 2021-22 school year, according to the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education.

There were 2,567 students being taught by 228.6 teachers in Dedham Public Schools District, which covers schools within Norfolk County and has a main office in Dedham. That's an average of 11.2 students per teacher in the district during the 2021-22 school year.

In the previous year, Dedham Public Schools District had 2,556 students and 229.6 teachers on staff.

However, the state is facing a teacher shortage, just like the rest of the U.S. NewsNation reported that the state was offering emergency teaching licenses to educators who only had bachelor’s degrees, in an effort to get more teachers into schools.

Despite the shortage, under-representation of ethnicities among teachers was found to be a concern. The Rennie Center reported that only nine percent of teachers are people of color.
