Today I joined June Doherty and the “Swim With A Special Child Program” (SWASC) at the Connell Memorial Pool in Weymouth.

This incredible swim program, for children with special needs from ages 5-22, has been using the Connell Pool for over 50 years since 1971.  Over 130 children come to the pool every two weeks to learn to swim, accompanied by more than 50 volunteers whose ages range from 25 to 96 years old.  June is 96 years old, simply Unbelievable!

The kids learn to swim, play water games, or just enjoy the pool.  Some of the kids have never been in a pool before, while others participate in the Special Olympics.  All benefit both emotionally and physically from participating in this amazing program with June Doherty who started the program, and her extraordinary staff and team of volunteers.  Thank you for all that you do and for inviting me!
