The Dean College men's basketball team dropped a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) road game at Albertus Magnus, 76-64, Sunday afternoon.
Dean (11-6, 6-4 GNAC) returns home to host Anna Maria on Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. Albertus Magnus (10-7, 8-2 GNAC) travels to Elms on Wednesday for a 7 p.m. tip.
Junior Jayden Madise (Palmdale, Calif.) led the Bulldogs with a season-high 16 points on 8-of-12 shooting. Senior Mark Blair (Rosedale, N.Y.) added 15 points, while junior AJ Weston (Kansas City, Mo.) recorded 13 points and seven assists. Junior Jakobi Greenleaf (Houston, Texas) tallied 11 points and four steals. Junior Malik Spearman (St. Paul, Minn.) finished with six points, 13 boards and three steals.
Terry Dawkins poured in a game best 26 points for Albertus. He was 10-of-15 from the floor and grabbed 15 rebounds. Justice Washington posted a 20-point, 20-rebound performance. Antonio Bonilla contributed 12 points.
The home team took a 14-4 lead, 6:31 into today's contest, behind a couple of treys by Bonilla. The Falcons lead later ballooned to 14, 29-15, with less than eight minutes to go in the first. Dean chipped away, but Albertus was able to hold an 11-point advantage with 3:06 on the clock. The Bulldogs kept fighting and finished the half on a 10-2 run, capped by a Weston long ball in the final second, to pull Dean within 35-32 at the break.
Dean carried the momentum into the second by scoring the first two buckets to take a lead for the first time since it was 2-0. The next several minutes went back-and-forth with neither team holding more than a two possession advantage. Midway through the frame, Albertus went on top 58-52 after a Washington layup. A Blair 3-point play and a Weston free throw brought Dean to within a deuce, but Albertus responded by slowly building an 11-point cushion over the next few minutes en route to the 76-64 victory.
