Greenleaf's Double-Double Powers Dean Past Elms, 90-72

Dean College junior Jakobi Greenleaf (Houston, Texas) posted a season best double-double of 23 points and 12 rebounds to help the men's basketball team earn a 90-72 Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) road win at Elms on Saturday afternoon.

Dean (9-4, 4-2 GNAC) returns to action next Saturday with a 3 p.m. GNAC contest at Regis. Elms (1-12, 0-6 GNAC) hosts Colby-Sawyer on Wednesday.

Greenleaf shot 10-of-13 from the floor to lead all players in the scoring column. The rest of Dean's starting five also reached double figures. Junior AJ Weston (Kansas City, Mo.) finished with 19 points thanks to a 12-of-12 performance from the free throw line. Junior Malik Spearman (St. Paul, Minn.) came away with his fourth double-double of the season with 13 points and 11 rebounds. Junior Jayden Madise (Palmdale, Calif.) and senior Mark Blair (Rosedale, N.Y.) added 12 points apiece.

Elms received 11 points from Tahquell Cadle and Jake Midura. Cadle added team highs of nine rebounds, six assists and three steals.

The home team took an 11-4 lead in the first four minutes, before a 10-0 run in the next three minutes put Dean in front. Most of the half went back-and-forth before an Elms run put the Blazers on top 33-25 with 3:30 to play. Dean battled back to close the half on an 8-2 run to pull within a bucket at the break, 35-33.

The Blazers increased their lead to seven, in the opening three minutes of the second. The Bulldogs clawed back and took a 51-50 lead after a Spearman layup with 12:25 on the clock. Elms then took a 58-57 lead with 8:43 to play when Dean went on an unbelievable run to close the game, scoring 33 points in the final 8:28. The Bulldogs shot 63.3% in the second half and made 17-of-20 free throws to put up 57 points on the board.

Dean finished the game 26-of-31 from the free throw line and scored 52 points in the paint.
