The Dean College women's basketball team dropped a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) game to Norwich, 72-15, on Tuesday evening in Pieri Gymnasium.
Dean (0-8, 0-4 GNAC) hits the road on Thursday for a 7:30 p.m. GNAC game at Emmanuel. Norwich (5-5, 1-2 GNAC) plays at Elms on Thursday with a 4 p.m. scheduled start time.
Sophomore Tori Viau (Johnston, R.I.) led Dean with nine points. First-year Carly Rettberg (Haddam, Conn.) had a team best seven rebounds, while first-year Natasha Brito (Fitchburg, Mass.) chipped in with four points off the bench.
Norwich was paced by sophomore Haley Brewster's (Virginia Beach, Va.) 18 points. Sophomore Maren McGinn (Georgia, Vt.) had 14 points and six rebounds. Junior Silas Bernier (Jaffrey, N.H.) pulled down a game best nine rebounds.
The Cadets made nine baskets and held Dean without a made field goal in the first frame to lead 24-1 after 10 minutes of action. Brewster poured in 12 points for the Cadets.
The Bulldogs found some rhythm in the second quarter with six points from Viau and four from Brito. Norwich, however scored 12 points in the paint to help post a 13-10 advantage in the scoring column for a 37-11 lead at the half.
Norwich increased its lead in the third and fourth quarters to come away with the 72-15 victory.
