Women's Basketball Drops GNAC Opener at Rivier

The Dean College women's basketball team dropped a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) opener at Rivier on Saturday afternoon, 85-43.

Dean (0-5, 0-1 GNAC) returns home on Wednesday to host Albertus Magnus at 7:30 p.m. Rivier (4-5, 1-0 GNAC) hosts Norwich on Wednesday at 5 p.m.

Sophomore Tori Andrewski (North Sutton, N.H.) notched her first double-double of the season to lead Dean with 13 points and 12 rebounds. Sophomore Tori Viau (Johnston, R.I.) was also in double figures with 12 points. Sophomore Cat Thomas (Woodbridge, Conn.) pulled down eight rebounds.

The Raiders were paced by Hannah Muchemore (Nashua, N.H.) with 19 points on 7-of-9 shooting. Brianna Wilcox (Londonderry, N.H.) finished with 14 points, eight rebounds and six steals. Lyric Grumblatt (Manchester, N.H.) and Rachel Guinn (Clinton, Mass.) added 11 points apiece.

Rivier made 5-of-10 three-pointers to race out to a 22-7 lead after 10 minutes of action. Muchemore poured in 11 points for the Raiders. The Bulldogs held an 11-9 edge in rebounding in the first quarter.

The second frame was back and forth as each team scored 10 points. Rivier hit a couple of more deep balls, while Dean went 6-6 from the free throw line. At the half, Thomas had six points and six boards to lead the Bulldogs. Rivier led 32-17 at the break.

Rivier erupted for 30 points in the third quarter, while Dean scored 16 to trail 62-33 after 30 minutes. Andrewski had nine points for the Bulldogs.

The home team added to its advantage by outscoring the Bulldogs 23-10 in the final stanza to account for the 85-43 final.
