Bulldogs Cruise to 96-70 Win over Medgar Evers

The Dean College men's basketball team won its second game in 24 hours by defeating Medgar Evers in convincing fashion, 96-70, Sunday afternoon inside Pieri Gymnasium.

Dean (3-2) will play its third home game in a row next Sunday with a 2 p.m. start against UMaine-Augusta. Medgar Evers (1-3) wraps up a three-game road swing with a 7 p.m. tip at Saint Elizabeth on Monday, Nov. 28.

Dean senior Mark Blair (Rosedale, N.Y.) flirted with a triple-double to finish with 18 points, nine assists and eight rebounds. He shot 8-of-9 from the floor and added three steals. Junior AJ Weston (Kansas City, Mo.) added 14 points, while junior Nick Grant (Houston, Texas) went 6-of-8 for 12 points. Junior Jakobi Greenleaf (Houston, Texas) contributed 10 points, eight rebounds and three assists.

Medgar Evers was led by a 15-point performance on 7-of-9 shooting from freshman Isaiah Brodie (Queens, N.Y.). Senior Mousa Sinera (Bronx, N.Y.) shot 5-of-6 to finish with 12 points. Freshman Jacob Green (Queens, N.Y.) registered seven points, four assists and four rebounds in 15 minutes off the bench.

The Bulldogs carried the momentum from yesterday's victory into a strong start against the Cougars. Dean raced out to a 15-4 lead and never looked back. The Bulldogs led 50-27 at the break thanks to 61.1% shooting with 34 points in the paint. The Cougars shot 50%, but only attempted 24 shots. The Bulldogs also took advantage of 15 Medgar Evers miscues, turning them into 22 points. Grant and Blair had 10 points apiece to lead Dean. Sophomore AJ Evans (Bronx, N.Y.) paced the Cougars in the first half with nine points.

Dean held at least a 21-point advantage throughout the second half, with the lead ballooning to 39 at the 11:42 mark. Medgar Evers continued to convert efficiently on offense, shooting 54.8% for the half, but Dean had more volume and made five more three-pointers to cruise to the victory.

Dean shot 49.4% for the game, while Medgar Evers made 52.7% from the floor. The Bulldogs held a slim 38-37 in rebounding, but a wide discrepancy in points off turnovers (40-10).
