Upcoming Changes to Mattress/Box Spring Recycling

Beginning in November, mattresses and box springs will no longer be allowed in the trash. New state regulations from the MassDEP require mattresses and box springs be recycled or donated for reuse.

To comply with the new state regulations, the Town of Weymouth has partnered with HandUp Mattress Recycling to offer mattress and box spring disposal to Weymouth residents. Mattress and box spring pickup must be scheduled directly through HandUp online at www.handupmattress.com/curbside-pickup or by calling 774-271-8744. There is a fee of $47 per mattress or box spring. There are fines associated with improper disposal of these items.

For more information on the state’s “waste ban” on mattresses and textiles, see the Recycle Smart newsletter: https://bit.ly/3yOikn3. If you have questions regarding the new program, please call the DPW at 781-337-5100.
