The New England Patriots announced roster moves involving their practice squad. The team has signed guard Mehki Butler to the practice squad and released guard Bill Murray.
Butler, age 24, joined the Patriots as a rookie free agent from Arkansas State on May 12, 2025. Standing at 6-foot-3 and weighing 310 pounds, he was previously released by the team on August 26, re-signed to the practice squad a day later, and then released again on September 11. Butler played two seasons at Iowa Western before transferring to Arkansas State for his last four collegiate years.
Bill Murray, who is 28 years old, had been added to the Patriots’ practice squad on November 25, 2025. He initially entered the NFL with New England in 2020 as a defensive lineman from William & Mary. Over his time with the organization, Murray spent multiple seasons on the practice squad and transitioned from defensive line to offensive line in 2022. He was promoted to the active roster for three games during that season and debuted in an NFL game against Buffalo on December 1. In 2023, Murray moved to the Chicago Bears’ practice squad and made their main roster in 2024, appearing in three games before being placed on injured reserve. The Bears released him on September 2, 2025.
