The Northeastern University men’s and women’s track and field teams are set to compete at the Beantown Challenge Invitational this Saturday at Harvard’s Gordon Indoor Track. The event will start at 11:30 a.m. and is available for streaming on ESPN.
The Huskies return to competition after a month-long break. During the early part of the indoor season, several athletes achieved new all-time top 10 performances and set school records. Freshman Iolo Grant ran a 7.91 in the 60-meter hurdles, placing him second all-time in school history. Sophomore Taeshawn Berry recorded a time of 6.85 seconds in the 60-meter dash, tying him for eighth all-time at Northeastern. Senior Leila Curtis threw 15.24 meters in the shot put, earning her fourth place all-time and recognition as CAA Field Athlete of the Week. Freshman Lola Satre Morales broke the school record in the 600 meters with a time of 1:32.10.
A total of 64 Northeastern athletes will participate in the meet, which takes place in Cambridge. Field events begin with weight throws, followed by shot put, long jump, pole vault, and high jump. Track events start at 1:00 p.m., beginning with trials for the 60-meter hurdles and continuing with races including the mile, finals for the hurdles, as well as events such as the 600m, 500m, 300m, 1000m, 3000m, and concluding with the mile relay.
After this weekend’s meet at Harvard, Northeastern plans to remain local for upcoming competitions. The team is scheduled to take part in two more Boston-based meets—the BU Bruce Lehane Scarlet & White Invitational on January 24 at BU Track and Tennis Center and then the BU John Thomas Terrier Classic—before heading into championship competition at ECAC/IC4A.
