The Northeastern track and field team is set to continue its outdoor season with upcoming competitions at the Raleigh Relays, hosted by North Carolina State University, beginning Thursday, March 26, and the UMass Flagship First meet in Amherst on Saturday, March 28.
These meets offer Northeastern athletes a chance to build on their recent performances. The team started its outdoor campaign strongly at the UCF Gold & Black Invitational last weekend. Freshman Matthew St. Cyr led the field events with a personal-best javelin throw of 61.82 meters, placing third overall and moving into fifth place all-time in program history. Junior Hannah Shaw, freshman Carter Engelman, and senior Leila Curtis also delivered notable results in their respective events. On the track side, freshman Aiden Ray, junior Savannah Blair, and junior Brunner Williams each posted times that rank among Northeastern’s best-ever marks for their events.
The Huskies are returning to the Raleigh Relays after competing there last year as well. In that event last season, sophomore Nico Boyle ran a time of 14:40.52 in the 5000 meters while junior Ryan Sarney finished the 10,000 meters in 30:55.47. Nicole Dunbury achieved a personal-best time of 4:23.37 in the 1500 meters—winning her section and advancing to third on Northeastern’s all-time outdoor list—and senior Conall Rogers concluded with a time of 1:56.02 in the 800 meters.
Following their opening weekend this season, several Huskies have already secured spots within the top-50 of NCAA East Outdoor Qualifying List rankings for their events. Junior Brunner Williams currently ranks twenty-third nationally in the men’s 200 meters (20.99 seconds). Graduate student freshman Aiden Ray holds twenty-seventh place in the men’s 400-meter hurdles (53.21 seconds), while Matthew St.Cyr is ranked twenty-ninth for his javelin performance (61.82 meters). The men’s relay squad composed of Felton III, Ray, Williams and Berry sits thirtieth overall after clocking a time of three minutes fourteen point sixty-three seconds (3:14:63) in the four-by-four hundred meter relay.
As these competitions approach later this week across two venues—the Paul Derr Track & Field Facility for distance runners at N.C State’s event and UMass Track & Field Complex for others—the Huskies aim to continue improving individual marks as they progress through their spring schedule.
